Culture of Soccer Reader Roll Call

Since I started this blog at the beginning of the year, I’ve been surprised and honored by how the readership of my blog has grown. I’ve been curious to know who exactly these people are who are taking the time to read my website. So, inspired by Ives Galarcep, I’d like to do a Culture of Soccer Roll Call. I’ve gotten to “know” (such as one can on the Internet) some of you through your comments, emails, etc., but I’d like to know more about other readers with whom I have not communicated.

Below, if you would be so kind, please tell me your name (first name or posting nickname is fine) and where you live. If you have a website of your own, feel free to list it. I’m always looking for good new reads.

Thanks for reading Culture of Soccer.

I’m reading this from Yorkshire in England. Been subscribed to CoS for a couple of months now. I’m taking a business degree and want to use football as the basis for a small business.

On this same topic, I read the Global Game blog as well

I’m Jason Murphy, a doctoral candidate in philosophy at Saint Louis University in Missouri. I found this site through a google search.

I work on political philosophy and contemporary German philosophy. I hope to look into the aesthetics, ethics, and politics of sport from a normative standpoint. This blog is a marvelous source of stipulated facts for just such a thing.

I try to catch every Tottenham Hotspur game and watch the Houston Dynamo or international matches if ESPN takes them to my home. I need to pare down the sites I visit but I check out the Guardian, SI.com, Sideline Views, and an American site called “the Spur”.

I became obsessed with the game when I was overseas during the 2002 World Cup and have followed the game religiously since. I’ve traveled to Europe twice to see football and my allegiance lies with Tottenham Hotspur.

Love the posts, keep up the good work.

Greg from Las Vegas, I’m 30 and I’ve been reading CoS for about a month now. I’ve been watching the World Cup and Copa America since about the early 1990s, but my horizons have been broadened recently with a big upgrade in my satellite programming package.

Favorite clubs are Liverpool FC, Schalke 04, FC Kaiserslautern, Parma and Boca Juniors (watching Maradona for the first time is what drew me into the beautiful game).

I am trying to immerse myself more into MLS and am anxiously hoping MLS expansion comes to Las Vegas. I would love to find a good forum or chat room to talk football with others, but haven’t found one yet, maybe I’ll just stick around here :)

    Great blog btw David.

I found your site relatively recently, courtesy of Dan Loney. As a local coach notes, I’m trying to create ’soccer junkies’ in Southwest Missouri. Branson (45 min S) just announced they will add High School soccer next year, that’s where we are here in the Ozarks.

When will you be in STL? I may be up there when you come through (family visit) and am quite envious of your opportunity to interview one of the 1950 team.

Hi, 21yr old, reading this blog from Belgium. Main thing I like about it is the timeless perspective it offers. Which is akin to what freedarko does for the existentialism of the NBA.

I have a blog of my own, which I don’t update enough. Don’t go there, it’s in some foreign language.

Hi, my name is Jon, I am 26 years old and I am from Donostia (Basque Country), home of the great soccer club Real Sociedad.

I have been reading this blog for about six months now and I found it through a google search.

The reason why I started reading it, is that I would like to learn how is the situation of soccer in the USA as I would like to apply for a job in a MLS team.

I already have a degree in Exercise Science and in this 07/08 academic year I will finish a master’s degree in Sporting Bodies and Services Management as well as a degree in Business Administration (in fact, I will spend the second semester in Kirksville, Missouri, as an exchange student at the Truman State University).

I have always wanted to work in a soccer club, and I would like to have an experience abroad now that I am still young, before I come back to settle definitively in the Basque Country.

Congratulations on your great blog David.

    Greetings from the Basque Country,
    Jon.

I read a lot, to the point of distraction most of the time. this site is probably the most balanced view on soccer that i’ve found. tactics are subjective, personalities are irrelevant, results matter but in most places are not as important as the build-up. Commentary is supposed to be about the game and the meta-game, and this site does it very well.

I root for the USL (I think it offers a brighter future for US soccer than the MLS franchise model), USA, and Manchester City. My favorite international players are Michael Essien and Franck Ribery. Michael Bradley and DaMarcus Beasley are my favorite US players.

It’s not my blog but 101GreatGoals.com is excellent, with links to video of just about ever major goal in Europe scored each and every day plus solid commentary and commentary round-ups.
