Revenge of the Stretcher Bearers
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006
Stretchers are at games to help injured players off the field, at least in theory. However, players wishing to waste time at the end of games often fake injury, requiring the stretcher bearers to come onto the field and carry them off when there is really no need for them to be carried. As if being used in this way weren’t enough, today comes word that Colo Colo player Alvaro Ormeno was “involved in a row,” to use quaintly British terminology, with a stretcher bearer during his team’s game with Huachipato. Unable to take it any more, the medical team dropped Ormeno off the stretcher. This enraged the coach (and player, I imagine, though the article doesn’t say) so much that he had to be sent off by the referee.
Oh yeah, and Colo Colo won 2-1.
